| Nothing makes spring greener than seeds
from Seedland... You will find our seeds are quality produced and tested. Bermudagrass is the main grass of the tropical and
sub-tropical regions. It is found extensively throughout
the Southern state areas of the USA. Its growing range is
from Southern California, through Arizona / New Mexico - Across
Texas & Oklahoma, Then through the Area from Arkansas to
Virginia / Maryland to Southern Florida and even the
Caribbean Islands. |
 |
The usage of this grass extends across
lawns, golf courses,
athletic fields, bowling greens, tennis courts, home putting greens,
high traffic areas and landscaping areas
of all kinds. It also has great soil erosion capacity for roadsides, water banks, ditch banks,
and use for low
maintenance area in the full sun. Depending upon the cultivar,
it is can be used in pastures
and for haying purposes.
Advances in Seeded Bermudagrasses
Could Spark Wider Use for this grass
The turf uses of Bermuda are extensive. Bermuda grass one of the main grasses that golf courses must use in
the south for the shortest mowing height possible. Athletic fields are dependant upon the
recovery aspect and density of the sod. Being able to overseed with cool season grasses
(Ryegrasses) in the fall without doing major harm to the Bermuda grass is an important factor for these playing
surfaces.
Year round green is often a perfect
lawn goal and Bermuda
fills the gap in warm season areas. It can achieve
year round usage in the no frost, warm season areas, or be
overseeded in cooler areas. As the population expands, more homes, business, malls, roads, streets, etc. are built and
the need for erosion and beautification often calls for a grass that is low maintenance, easily
grown, needs less water and is compatible with the surroundings. Bermudagrass fills the
bill on many of these levels.
It's Advantages are:
- Easy to start from seed. Full sun (warm season) grass. Tolerates
heat well. Fast establishment time.
- High disease and insect resistance (except nematodes).
- Survives in a variety of soils from sandy to clays.
- Grows well on infertile, dry soils - Good drought resistant qualities.
- Withstands close grazing and traffic wear - Can be mowed low.
- Aggressive growth chokes out weeds.
- With proper care
& fertilizer, creates a good green lawn.
- Responds well to nitrogen applications - creating darker green colors.
- Improved Seeded varieties are rarely affected
by Pearl Scale.
It's Disadvantages are:
- Aggressive runners invade flower beds and non-grassy areas.
- Not suitable for shady areas. Hybrids require more extensive maintenance.
- Often goes dormant in lower temps (50-60 F). Turns a
yellow-brownish color.
